What does the rating mean?
MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rates an air filter's effectiveness. The higher the MERV rating, the more air particles a filter captures. A MERV of 9 - 12 is considered a "Superior" rating for residential use; MERV 12 is recommended for laboratory use.
MERV ratings are based on the ASHRAE 52.2 test designed by the National Air Filtration Association.
